Q There was a medical accident. What should I do?
A

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute provides consulting and receives complaints from foreign patients, support for emergency situations, and mediation procedures to resolve disputes in the case of medical accidents.

It has a medical call center providing consulting services in English, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Arabic.

Q Does medical insurance cover expenses?
A

If foreigners meet the necessary requirements and join the National Health Insurance and pay its premiums, they can also be protected the same as Korean citizens.

Q Where can I be issued medical visas?
A
Applications are received at the Korean embassy or consulate. Persons qualified for issuance of visas:
? Person who intends to become an inpatient at a medical or rehabilitation center in Korea with the purpose of treating diseases or for recuperation who require more than 91 days of treatment
? Patient and patient’s spouse, children or direct family who enters the country to look after the patient (period of sojourn 1 year, visa valid for 1 year), C3 (M): When the treatment and period of sojourn is less than 90 days (cosmetic surgery and treatment, and other simple procedures), G1 (M): 1 year (long-term treatment and rehabilitation)

Q Are there medical services for foreign tourists?
A
call 119 and you can receive information on medical centers for foreigners, available hospitals and ambulance services
Q What happens if I get sick during travels?
A
When a foreigner dials 119, the call is forwarded to the Tourism Corporation that provides interpretation services and a three-way call is made for effective communication. English, Japanese and Chinese are available, and foreigners living in other areas will be connected to the BBB service (free interpretation service)
Q How is the medical institute system of Daejeon organized?
A
There are medical centers with a doctor that usually work with outpatients; hospitals, dentists and oriental medical centers with doctors and medical facilities that can accommodate over 30 inpatients; and general hospitals and university hospitals that can accommodate over 100 inpatients. The quality of medical services is very high and boasts world-class medical services with advanced medical instruments
